At Miderma, I offer a range of advanced and reliable skin biopsy procedures to accurately diagnose and treat various skin conditions, including skin cancer, benign lesions, and more.
Schedule a ConsultationI perform each procedure with the highest level of expertise, ensuring the most effective results with minimal discomfort. Below are the types of biopsies I commonly perform:
A shave biopsy is often used for superficial skin lesions, such as those suspected to be intraepidermal carcinoma or basal cell carcinoma. This minimally invasive procedure involves removing a thin layer of skin for examination, which helps me quickly and accurately confirm the diagnosis. It’s a trusted, effective method that minimises scarring and recovery time.
The punch biopsy is one of the most useful and versatile methods I use. It is quick, convenient, and creates only a small wound. Using a circular device, I remove a full-thickness sample of skin, including the epidermis, dermis, and often the subcutis. This comprehensive tissue sample allows me to assess deeper layers of the skin, providing a complete picture for accurate diagnosis.
An incisional biopsy is typically performed when I need a larger, deeper sample of skin. During this procedure, I remove an elliptical section of skin using a scalpel blade, and stitches are usually required to close the wound. This method is ideal for deeper or larger lesions where a more extensive tissue sample is necessary for diagnosis.
An excision biopsy involves the complete removal of a skin lesion, including a margin of surrounding tissue. I often use this technique for suspected skin cancers, as removing a larger area ensures the lesion is fully excised and reduces the risk of recurrence. After excision, I suture the wound and send the tissue for histopathological examination.
Mole excision is a common procedure I perform to remove suspicious moles that could potentially turn into skin cancer, or simply for cosmetic reasons. I excise the mole along with a margin of surrounding tissue, then send it for analysis to ensure it is free of malignancy.
Whether it’s a benign growth, wart, or cyst, lesion removal is a procedure I perform to eliminate unwanted or potentially harmful skin lesions. I use advanced techniques to minimise scarring and ensure effective results, carefully removing the lesion and sending it for analysis if needed.
If you’re concerned about a skin lesion or would like to learn more about the biopsy and lesion removal procedures I offer, don’t hesitate to contact me today to schedule a consultation.
